Summer Devotion
Heavy and full of life to the point of overflowing,
a season of ripening and boundless endless growing.
Energy resounding in every layer of life,
the rush of heated molecules expanding the air itself.
The gestation of babies burgeoning within the womb wanting to birth out.
Seedlings in search for sunlight stretch frantically about
finding firm foothold beneath the soil, for winter wind and summer drought.
Afternoon thunderstorms announce a time of life exploding,
quenching relentless waves of heat billowing and imploding,
spreading across the land like spillage of a volcano.
While summer nights are as warm and sweet as cupid’s caress,
jasmine scents the aquatic air that rises from thunder’s steamy bath,
and all things wild and wonderful dance upon the path.
While the moon is bursting big, nightingales upon a twig, sing and laugh.
Summer is but God’s creativity on overdrive.
A time to romp and play, sun and swim for all things alive.
A time to reproduce, maturate and multiply.
We marvel at the science of unraveling God’s secrets
during days of drowsy dozing beneath trees on cool deep grass,
with a plethora of the sounds of creatures and bugs that sass.
Our Creator lingers in every kinetic pulse and atomic mass.

Autumn Devotion
Swirling leaves upon the breeze…
the air can’t decide to be hot or cold.
It blows balmy and crisp, like
summer and winter caught in the fold.
Colors casting but never lasting,
heaping hues upon the landscapes.
Trees bursting in bronze, brass, and copper,
leaving pewter branches as foliage escapes.
Flocks of birds in groups and herds
lining phone wires in their pause for rest,
then filling the sky, lifting high,
dark, darting, dots on a southern quest.
Upon my knees, this moment I seize,
to thank the Lord for all He’s given,
for my loved ones dear, both far and near,
and the wondrous world we live in.

Winter Devotion
Quiet, peaceful quiet,
Snowflakes confused and falling,
Falling in every direction,
As they whirl with dancing inflection,
Finally alighting without a sound.
Grey upon endless grey,
Barren branches with no shadow,
Spread before a frosted sky.
Filmy sun like a cataract eye,
Diffusing frail, eclipsed light all around.
Cold, enveloping cold,
Hot is noisy, buzzing, chirping,
Cold is quiet, stilling, chilling,
Lifeless fields awaiting tilling,
While seed is renewing under ground.
Winter, restful winter,
After seasons of long, tired days,
We land quietly upon reflection,
Ask our Creator for new direction,
As weary spirits revive and rebound.

Spring Devotion
The hills are dimpled and dappled
With greys of winter,
Baby leaf greens,
Sparkling pinks,
Lacey whites and creams,
Fireworks of fuchsia,
Bushes bloating with bursts of yellow,
Pom-poms of peonies, tiny buds in endless minutia.
Flowers freckling yards and roadsides,
Daffodils and tulips,
Large, languid, lilies,
Butterflies tottering,
Mares with their fillies.
Crocus hail the start,
While melodic frogs and singing birds
Signal the quickening pulsation of Mother Nature's heart.
What was at rest is now resplendent,
What had left has now returned,
What seemed dead is now resurrected,
A kaleidoscope of sound, scent, and sights charmingly churned.
No other season could better reflect the story,
Of the rise from mute death by our Savior Jesus
To life everlasting and symphonic glory,
A resounding revelation to repeatedly please us.
